hi,

i wonder if you can help.

i have a really good idea for a gritty 3 part drama, that would fit in with the direction that channel 4 is moving in.

the only problem is i suffer from dyslexia, so struggle to get the idea down to sound as edgy as it is in my vision.
as a result i find it hard to enter any screen writing competitions

any ideas?

Hi there
Appreciate your frustration, but I’d have to say that the idea itself is always going to be the main focus of interest for any potential commissioner, rather than how well a synopsis or overview is presented.

But would suggest that in the first instance you ask friends and/or family to cast their critical eyes over anything you prepare to iron out any obvious spelling or grammatical mistakes.

Also, if you’re serious about approaching C4 [or any other broadcaster for that matter] then it would be worth trying to get in to see one or a number of drama indies, talk them through your idea[s] and most of them will have development execs who will help shape a pitch in advance of any meeting with a commissioning editor.

Hope this helps.

Any plans for a competition open to people over 30? I feel discriminated against.

Hi

I am about to begin travelling for one year around the world and I won’t have an address. I can give an address of my family but I won’t actually be resident. This is, however, just a gap year and I will return to the UK once it is over. I have numerous peices of writting that I would like to put forward and will be working on my main project whilst travelling. Does this mean that I am not able to enter?

In the last couple of weeks I have been a hermit to the world, and I’ve recently heard about this scheme and am very excited about. However, there are so many categories I would ideally like to enter, particularly the dramatic piece. But I honestly have nothing to submit as a majority of my work has been lost. Would it be okay to submit a synopsis?

I suppose my problem is that I’ve always had ideas, be it for film, drama, photography or art, but I have never had the courage or support to follow through. Maybe this scheme could help bring me out of my shell.

Also, I’m not very techno-savvy, so I won’t have a personal site or anything like that. Would it count against me?

Hi

I am a freelance illustrator living in Bristol, who recently graduated from university. I am currently trying to push my work out into the public eye and thought this might be a good place to try! Are you the right person to ask about this? or is there a specific person I should email regarding illustration?

@James: Hi James. Email me helen (at) 4talentmagazine.com with some examples of your work.

Hi Helen I have emailed you some examples of the work and a link to my website.
